A name is something that “labels” who a person is. There are some common labels, and some uncommon labels. My parents contemplated between various names such as Mohammad, Ali, and Yusuf. My dad however wanted to give me an uncommon name to stand out towards others. Eventually, my parents came to a conclusion to give me the name, “Yasir.” Personally, I am indifferent towards my naming, as I look at it as a memento for my parents. Whether it had been another name such as Mohammad or Yusuf, I would have accepted my name the way it is and pride myself in my name, regardless of the name. It just turns out to be the fact, that I actually am grateful towards my parents for naming me an uncommon and unique name in our society today. I look at it as a way to signify how unique I was in my parent’s eyes.…

the name that I was gifted with at birth. I wasn't one to give much thought to my own name, it wasn't that I wasn't interested in my name, it wasn't something that I would question or think of. I just saw my name as a title for people to use as a form or reaching out to me when they needed me for a certain task, yet there were moments where I thought to myself... "Why out of all the names would my parents pick Claudia?", it's not that I specifically dislike the name or have anything against…

my full name is. Even though my middle name is popular (and apparently my first name, too), it feels like everything falls into place when I say, “Emma Elizabeth Eichenberger” because my initials spell out “EEE”, which perfectly describes the squealing noise I make whenever I’m excited about something. Ask my friends, and they’ll tell you I’m just about pumped for anything. My parents always told me that they had a name picked out for me well before I was born. Based on my dad’s genetics, they…

The Story of My Search As I began planning for the name research paper my English teacher gave me, I was not exactly sure what I would get out of it. The topic of the essay didn’t exactly speak to me because I already knew how I got my name and the meanings of it, so I did not know if I would learn something new. But as I began to research the meanings of my names, I realized that there is a lot more to a person’s name. In the first week of our research, we went to the library, and I used…

When people introduce themselves I subconsciously block out their names. This is quite a problem, especially now, when starting fresh and independent at BYU, am left wanting friends, and am constantly finding myself in the position of meeting countless new people. I do, however, remember conversations, moments, unique personality traits, personal thoughts, as well as connections I made with that person. When it comes to recalling names however, I go stupid. My brain doesn’t remember names or…
