The purpose of the lab was to observe the environmental impact on the behavior of pill bugs (Armadillidium vulgare) by using the steps of the scientific method. . We placed two pill bugs in an enclosed space and recorded the amount of time they spent in two categories of living spaces: hard rocks or soft sphagnum moss. Despite predicting that they would have a preference for a softer area, both pill bugs spent more of their time in the rocks than in the moss. This suggests that Armadillidium vulgare has a preference towards environments with hard surfaces over soft ones, possibly due to factors like light or surface area. However, certain experimental errors such as material density and poor handling may have skewed the accuracy of results. Introduction…
Isopods are interesting creatures that have been decided to experiment upon as the test subjects. However, the term isopods, generally refers to the order Isopda but to be more specific pill bugs are a subcaterogy. Therefore, the classification for them are the family Armadillidiidae, which means that they have the ability to conglobate/curl into a ball, acting as a defense mechanism for them if and when they are in danger. Additionally, the best known and most investigated is Armadillidium…
The Pill Bug has many names like such as Woodlice , potato bugs , roly-poly and the Sow Bug . The Pill Bug's real scientific name is the Armadillidium Vulgare. The Aramadillidium Vulgare lives mainly in humid areas of the world underneath logs and stones ; the reason behind this is because they breathe through a gill like structure on the underside of their bodies . The Pill Bug is known to many countries around the world mainly but in Mediterranean areas . The Pill bug is in the class…
The purpose of this experiment was to be able to identify certain substances that the Armadillidium vulgare is attracted to or would be likely to move towards. The substances were three different liquids and three different solids. Another purpose of the lab was to learn the characteristics of an Armadillidium vulgare also known as a pillbug (Mader, 2013). The main topic was based on whether the pillbug would be attracted to certain substances, and the reason they’re attracted to it. The…
Pill bugs name is woodlouse. Climate change will have an effect on animals, plants, and humans. With climate change rising many animals are going to get extinct in the future. Pill bugs are small animals that can live under rocks, and when you catch one they always tend to rolled up into a small ball. Their body temperature has to match with the environment that they live on. Pill bugs always like to come out during the night because they preferred moist and dark places. Temperature is important…
The animal I chose for my essay is the Kodkod. It is found in many places but we will focus on the Deciduous Forest the southern part of the coastal Andes. This is the smallest cat and survives in the wild. The biome the Kodkod lives is the Deciduous forest. It can be found in Canada, Europe, parts of Russia, China and Japan but we will focus on the Southern part of the Coastal Andes. The climate can be 46.4 to 86 degrees fahrenheit. The weather is often warm, moist and sunny. There are other 2…
Physiology Dr. Philip The Effect of Relative Humidity on Water Loss in Armadillidium vulgare Introduction We suspected that relative humidity had an effect on water loss in live Armadillidium vulgare, to test this we did an experiment with them in desiccators set with different relative humidity’s. Armadillidium vulgare (isopod) or pill bug need a habitat with a damp surface so that they do not dry out and die. To keep them from dying when we are not using them in experiments they are kept in…
Isopods that live on land are called Armadillidium Vulgare, also known as pill bugs. Pill bugs consume dead organisms in decomposing soil which are acidic in nature. This trait makes these organisms beneficial to our environment, by getting rid of all the dead and decomposing organisms. Pesticides are commonly used to deter pests from eating crops, and could be getting rid of beneficial organisms such as pill bugs instead. An experiment was performed to determine the preference of pill bugs in…
