In 1895, x-rays were discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen. He was a Professor at Wuerzburg University which was in Germany. He worked with a cathode-ray tube in which he observed a fluorescent glow of crystals on a table near the tube. The tube that Roentgen was working with at the time was made of a glass envelope with positive and negative electrodes filled in it. The air that was in the tube was let out. When a high voltage was applied, the tube produced a glow that was fluorescent. He then shielded the tube with a piece of heavy black paper, discovering a green fluorescent light brought about by a material only a few feet away from the tube. Roentgen then concluded that a new type of ray was being released from the tube. The ray was capable…
Problem: Swedish American Medical Center/Belvidere (SAMCB) is a smaller hospital in a neighboring town that Swedish American Health System in Rockford Illinois owns. At SwedishAmerican Medical Center/Belvidere, we currently have one Philips x-ray room and one AMX portable x-ray machine. The medical center only has one computed radiology (CR) laser reader. The x-ray room and portable x-ray both utilize this (CR) laser reader. If the laser reader happens to break down, we have no way of…
The history of dental radiography began on November 8, 1895 with the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen. This tremendous discovery changed the future of medical and dental professions, creating a new era for advances and improvements in the medical and dental field. Many other discoveries followed this monumental innovation, and in the late 1940 (s) MRI were discovered. The founding father of MRI is Raymond Damadian, who received a Nobel Prize in 1952. (Reference #1) During its…
generator has to be checked, water level in the bottle on the side of his table or cavitron can be change. If the scaler still not working lead nurse has to be noticed and engineer called. Ultrasonic unit with wires is check annually and records are kept in maintenance folder on the reception. e) X-ray machine To checked if the x-ray machine is working we have to switch on switch on the wall and also on the machine itself. If all is on and x-ray machine is still not working, we let know our…
A Brief Guide on Radiology "Radiology" is a very prevalent concept in the medical terms, but something unpredictable for the common person. In general terms, it is a process that is used to diagnose a specific disease. Usually, this technique includes the imaging process to detect and then treat according to the specific disease. In the reference of the medical theory, the radiology is a field that interprets and medicates the diseases utilizing the imaging technologies, such as X-ray,…
CT scans is essentially a more in –depth X-ray that uses computer technology to gather a more detailed image that is cross-sectional. A CT scan offers the physician insight as to size, shape and longitudinal location of structures that lie deep inside the body such as organs, tissues and tumors. The scan works with the patient lying as still as possible on a table and then being slid in to a rotating cylinder that captures the images from all different directions. A computer then combines the…
on a daily basis. I interviewed a local radiologist at the St. Mary’s Hospital. I want to be an x-ray technician. Though, she was a radiologist, technically it’s along the same path. I was surprisingly impressed with how little writing is in this field. The writing may not be much, but the importance of the writing needed is what makes it critical. The most interpretive component of the service provided by a radiographer is the written radiology report. The ‘written radiology report’…
Redberg was interviewed, she stated, “In 20-30 years, we’re going to be seeing tens of thousands of excess cancers due to the increased radiation that people are incurring now” (Radiation from CT ❡4). Patients do not want to see family members and friends develop cancer, but the stats will only rise unless the amount of CT scans are closely monitored. The population can also observe an increase in scans because our country hit an all time high on the number of CT scans that are done each year,…
INTRAPERSONAL EXPERIMENTS Magic X-Ray Machine This experiment is designed to help further emotional processing and help participants explore what is happening beneath the surface. It can be framed as follows: You’re walking down a path when you come across an old wizard who tells you he has an x-ray machine for you to try. It doesn’t see bones or anything physical but instead sees thoughts, feelings and emotions that are important to you. This experiment can be completed as guided imagery, an…
The patient's examination was started on the control panel computer with PA chest examination and wall stand selected. The DR central ray (CR) was horizontal and perpendicular to the wall stand detector with a focus film distance (FFD) of 180cm (Sloane et al, 2010). An FFD of 180 cm is recommended as it reduces the magnification of the heart, and reduces the radiation dose to the patient (Campeau and Fleitz, 2010). A focused grid is inserted into the moving grid mechanism of the wall stand and…
