When I started to write I would write about the evaluation of a novel in a very formal format and I would write about the character and how they connect with a certain idea or theme. Although it was opinion and my perception of the question it did not differ from the one the other students had I still felt disconnected, I was meant to take a predestined path about the ideas that I wrote about. When came to college and I was given my first written assignment I wrote as an impartial third party…
Entering graduate school, I have personally had mixed thoughts on taking a writing course for my first semester. The increased demand for scholarly writing skills in the healthcare profession allows for improvement in many nursing positions. “Some individuals take to writing easily and with enjoyment”, but “for others the process is quite difficult” (Dexter, 2000). I am one to admit, for me, writing is not effortless. I feel that I have room for advancement, not only with APA formatting, but…
changed to a certain extent. Coming fresh out of high school my thoughts about writing were that you first make an outline of ideas, then brainstorm a strategy to make those ideas flow together properly, and finally form that into a five paragraph essay. I now look back on that approach with laughter. It, though being effective by high school standard leave you at a severe disadvantage in the college setting. I take more of a free write first approach to assignments…
Return Of The Thin White Duke I translated “Return Of The Thin White Duke By Neil Gaiman” Before I started to translate that, I searched the story’s Turkish translation, I couldn’t find. The story is really so long. However, I try to translate, It’s really an enjoyful story to read not to translate. I try to translate all the text, but I couldn’t translate some of parts. So, this part wasn’t understand in Turkish. My aim, to be understandable, using basic words to read and understood…
When first joining the Navy, I was at a lost for what I wanted to do. After a year of being in deck department I realized the rate I was working under did not utilize my full potential. When I saw LN on Career Waypoints System (C-WAY) the excitement I felt knowing this rate could both push me to use my brain power and help others. Being from a place where justice was not particularly served I have always been a firm believer in justice being served correctly. Deciding to select legalman as a…
As a writer, your brain can get to be a pretty cluttered place. Characters clammer around and chatter all day. Works in progress and burgeoning ideas vie for attention. Daydreams and brainstorms rise and fall from the surface of consciousness like a swell at sea. Without proper vent, the authorial mind quickly becomes a frustratingly crowded place, and it can become hard to extract a single, linear thought from the teeming mess. Distraction and dismay, unfortunately, do not a productive writer…
Lamott’s discussion on shitty first draft is made persuasive by her assertion to the fact that in writing, nothing can be worse than the shitty first draft and as such, the writer needs to understand that it presents an opportunity to identify mistakes and make the necessary correction. Moreover, all the great writers today do not just write great books or pieces out of the blues, in fact they always have several shifty first drafts upon which they base their final drafts. (Pg. 4) Lamott states…
As we discussed on 10/28/17, 3rd shift supervisor Massiel Perez notified me that, she will not be coming back to work because of a personal reasons. I have discussed this with CSC leadership and a requisition will be opened for a supervisor on Monday morning. Moving forward, I will be utilizing the supervisors that have to back fill the supervisor positions. For the time being, John Kudasik will be the acting 2nd shift supervisor Monday-Wednesday and Henry Blume will be the acting 3rd…
Initially, I was flabbergasted to be assigned a children’s book to write a journal entry. I vaguely remember the story of the Lorax, how and why am I supposed to write a 300 hundred word response to a story designed for children? I walked away from my computer, frustrated at this assignment. I returned to my desk an hour later and thought, “Ed and Karen know what they are doing, there has to be something I can take away from this story”. Subsequently reading The Lorax for the first time in…
Out of all of the subjects I take in school, my favorite would have to be writing. I enjoy this form expression through words, and also enjoy reading expression through words. Writing allows me to express my feelings, thoughts, or emotions; I can put my mind and all of its thoughts up on display for all to be able to read and see. Through writing (and reading) I can read other’s ideas and works, and I can benefit from those. I can compare my thoughts with others, and teach and learn through…
