It has practical applications
E: It has helped us to understand things like criminal behaviour - This behaviour will be more likely if someone is exposed to aggressive behaviour - Supported by Ulrich who said the strongest predictor of violence is belonging to delinquent Peer group - violence was modelled and rewarded - also suggests how media reforms health related behaviours - characters model desired behaviours - helps audience identify with the model making them more likely to imitate. Conclusion- this means social learning approach can be used to reduce behaviour and improve health
It is not reductionist
Unlike classical n operant conditioning this theory doesn't reduce learning down to automatic stimulus response processes - takes into account that we imitate based on identification, whether we expect to have same consequences and ability - judge these factors and decide whether to imitate. Conclusion- this means the social learning approach provides a more valid explanation of human learning role by recognising the role of mediational processeslac
Lacks ecological validity
Was conducted in a lab which makes it artificial - children may have been responding to demand characteristics. Conclusion- this means the social learning approach may not provide valid explanation of how behaviours are learnt in real life
