Traction
One hand is placed on the side of the patients head; the other placed on the AC joint stabilizing the trunk. the cervical spine is laterally bent and the opposite shoulder depressed
Positive test- Brachial Plexus injury
Compression
The examiner presses down on the crown of the patient's head.
Distraction
The examiner flexes the patients cervical spine to a position of comfort, a traction force is applied to the skull, producing distraction of the cervical spine
Positive test- nerve compression
Spurlings
The patient laterally flexes the cervical spine, a compressive force is then placed along the cervical spine
Positive test- Nerve root impingement
Adson's
While still maintaining a feel for the radial pulse, the examiner externally rotates and extends the patient's shoulder while the face is rotated outward toward the involved side and extends the neck, the patient is instructed to inhale deeply and hold the breath
Positive test- thoracic outlet syndrome
Allen's
The elbow is flexed at 90 while the clinician abducts the shoulder to 90, the shoulder is then passively horizontally abducted and placed in external rotation, the patient then rotates the head toward the opposite shoulder
Military Brace
the patient retracts and depresses the shoulders as if coming to military attention, the humerus is extended and abducted to 30, the head and neck are hyperextended
Roo's
The patient rapidly opens and closes both hands for 3 minutes
