We are in a state of randomness. There are times that we follow our instincts (the gut feel) but there are times that we rationally discern and take precautionary measures to every action we make. This randomness of life is coupled with chances. The film Yojimbo started with a wandering Samurai who aimlessly wander and throws a stick in the air for direction. He took the chance to go beyond his wondering state and followed the path the stick will lead him. His fate led him to a troubled town of rival gangs where he saw war as an opportunity to comply to his desires-to practice his work and to gain personal wealth. As Antoine de Saint Exupery said, "the tree is more than first, a seed, then, a stem, then a living trunk, and then a dead timber, the tree is a slow, enduring force straining to win the sky." In a forest, trees compete spatially for nutrition whereas the taller ones loom majestically over the other trees, undermining others for one's benefit when they reach the canopy and optimizes the available sunlight not minding that they were blocking the sunlight received by the smaller ones. This concept of exploitation was well-regarded in the film especially with the matters of money and market control. It is evident how money have a weight on the plot of the story. The desire to be on top of the market as well as the battle on control and authority over the town is one of the main conflicts in the plot. The flow of the story is deeply immersive and thought provoking wherein Sanjuro as the protagonist successfully achieved his goal of making the town at peace coupled with the total destruction of the society in it, he survived with his wits, courage, and his ability to outrun his own bad luck.
