The losses associated with this disease are not solely physical and mental. Social wellness is affected for many people affected by this disease. Many dementia patients need to be housed in a long-term care facility due to the inability to care for oneself during the later stages of the disease. Even though a memory care unit has other peers involved, the person may feel isolated from their spouse, family or friends who are outside the unit. Social wellness could also be positively affected. If the person was living alone or in an isolated environment, the influx of new relationships and friendships by moving to a long-term care facility could greatly benefit their life.
