For example, when my resident got a lesion on his bottom, I only reported the issue to the charge nurse, wound nurse, and the assigned CNA. This example is also associated with the next sub-objective of documenting and providing verbal reports accurately and in a timely way to meet legal and agency requirements. I reported the lesion as soon as I was done with completing the necessary tasks with my resident. I offered to document this issue on point of care, however, the wound nurse said she would take care of it. An example of …show more content…
I believe that practice makes perfect. During post clinical conference, I add my input when questions are asked. Participation and adding input is a great way for me to learn. When my resident doesn’t need any assistance, I use initiative to seek learning opportunities by answering call lights, asking my peers if they need assistance, as well as offering help to the staff. To be able to gain more experience, I need to be exposed to different residents and learning opportunities therefore, I am not afraid to offer assistance. One situation in particular was I answered a call light and gained the experience of assisting a resident from the toilet to her wheelchair. This was beneficial as in the nursing career, I may have to assist a patient that I am unfamiliar with; being able to safely help and individual is essential. I have been able to successfully implement the student nurse role with the responsibility and accountability. For example, I am always on time, in clinical attire, and prepared for the day. Being professional is important because in the nursing career, one is expected to be prompts, prepare, and ready to

As a future health professional I learned that I should listen no matter what the situation is without interrupting. Listening and giving your undivided attention to your patients let them know you are concerned. I learned not to pry in the situation too much. I learned if you allow them to tell you on their own time, you will get more out of them and they will feel more comfortable giving you information that is much needed. I also learned to do research on certain situations before the client get there.…

It has brought me a new perspective about the world around me from listening to my residents who have come from all walks of life. My residents have given me valuable life advice about relationships between people, aging with humbleness, and just how to be an overall valuable citizen in society. However, it has also been one of my greatest privileges to serve my residents from giving them showers to feeding them. Likewise, making sure the people who cannot voice what they need and have limited mobility are comfortable, well-fed, and feel cared for. Equally, it is also important to me to help them transition from being a person who used to be totally independent to someone who needs a little extra help at their time in life.…

Knowing how to respond to someone who was going through difficult medical treatments, like chemotherapy, or who had lost someone was difficult. Yet the longer I worked in the hospital the more I started to get the sense that tip toeing around patients and families was unnecessary. It just added to the load of their already emotional journey. This was a good lesson to learn early on because illness, death, and dying is a reality of life that I will most likely come into contact with as a counselor. Moreover, working in a hospital was beneficial because I saw how medical professionals interacted with each other and their clients.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student.
