The tasks that a sports assistant have to do are setting up equipment ready for classes or sports halls being used, for instance putting up badminton nets and setting up equipment ready for fitness classes. A sports assistant also must performance maintenance at the work place, this would be checking to see if the equipment is safe to use and also cleaning the equipment after it has been used in order to keep everything clean ready to be used again. An example of this is at Redlands is cleaning the spin bikes after a class has been in ready for the next class later on in the day. Customer service is also used by a sports assistant when it comes to reception tasks and greeting customers when they enter and dealing with any enquires. A sports assistant must also do any tasks that the duty manager has asked them to do as well as perform other tasks such as working in the bar/kitchen or helping with coaching. For example, during my time at Redlands, I had to assist when it came to Weight watchers needing more coffee.
The main requirement for a sports assistant is to have an interest in sport and enjoying working in a sporting environment. The benefits of working alone is that it is easier to concentrate and focus on the task as no one else is around resulting in being interrupted less and getting the work done faster (Singh 2015). Another benefit is deciding what to do and how you want to do it as you can make your own decisions in a way that you feel is best in a way where the task can be done efficiently and effectively (Fabricant, Miller & Star 2013). At Redlands, I was working alone on tasks such as tidying away equipment and cleaning equipment like spin bikes in order to get the hall and equipment ready for use later on in the day. Problem solving also fits in with this strength as I would find efficient ways of completing tasks effectively and coming up with different alternatives if needed. Problem solving is important as it allows employees to analyse problems that have occurred and to be able to identify the severity of the problem and come up with a solution in order to fix the problem (Wart
