While there are critics who say that UConn women's basketball is hurting women’s basketball there are also copious amount of people that consider their dominance as a great thing. In Jill Martin’s 2016 article the UConn’s Dominance is Good for Women’s Basketball, she acknowledges that the whole controversy of UConn’s dominance being good or bad started when Boston Globe sportswriter Dan Shaughnessy tweeted, “UConn Women beat Miss St. 98-38 in NCAA tourney, Hate to punish them for being great, but they are killing the women’s game. Watch? No thanks”. After Shaughnessy tweeted this statement, many were quick to respond by comparing the Huskies unmatched perfect records with those in other sports with similar dominance. University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball coach Geno Auriemma responded to the tweet with a comment about Tiger Woods’s rule in the golf world. “When Tiger was winning every major, nobody said he was bad for golf, actually he did a lot for golf. He made everybody have to be a better golfer”. As a result of UConn’s elite level of play, they are constantly challenging their opponents to play at their level. It may seem that their undefeated history makes playing them discouraging, but rather it forces the opponents to play their best basketball to have a chance at knocking off the dynasty. Is it true that a team can be too successful or should we celebrate success no matter how many times they win? There are many life lessons that can come from UConn’s dominance and even just sports in general. One life lesson that the Huskies dominance shows is how one responds when faced with a challenge, do you face it head on and work even harder or do you just let it run over you? Stepping past UConn’s sovereign rule over; statistics, scores and records behind that stands a team. UConn does not win the national championship every year because of their past success, every player has to work hard all year to help get them there. Thru watching UConn one can clearly see teamwork and dedication to one another. A team can not stay on top for over ten years with just one star player, there has to be teamwork. Sports teach us to constantly push ourselves and one another to always bring you “A” game no matter the circumstances. Sports also teaches us to enjoy others gifts and talents and UConn has many talented players. Sports are entertaining to watch because we as viewers like to watch those who are more athletically skilled use their God given talents to impress and shock
