The first piece represents a human being. The overall size of this piece seems not particularly large. Some type of wood could possibly be the material of the piece. Using simple tools, such a knife to carve could have been used to produce it. This piece contains some prominent features, particularly the breasts, hips and the buttock. It also contains some features that are not as prominent such as the face, the arms and the legs. Hidden from your vision are the arms. Since these parts of the body do not capture as much attention, we can infer that these body parts are not as important compared to the breasts, according to the artist. If we observe the piece, we can also notice the lack of details. There are no eyes, mouth and nose. The lack of details enables this piece to represent any female. The second objects that contain similar features are the small “venus” figurines from Russia. These figurines date back approximately 20,000 years. We see can see that these two similar objects do not differ too much in the time in which they were created. A conclusion can be made that the piece could have been created around this time period. Also, both of these objects measure similar height. The Woman from Willendorf measures 11 cm while the “venus” figurines measure 15 cm. The small size indicates the object was meant to be an accessible item. When looking at both objects, the “venus” figurines contain much texture to the piece than compared to Woman from Willendorf.
