Opening Statement (2 min) Joyous, crisp, gingerbread, sparkling, wondrous. When I read these words, there is only one thing that comes to my mind, and that is, the magical season of winter. I believe winter is a better season than summer. A survey on debate.org showed that 58% of people chose winter over summer. Snow angels, snowball fights, snowmobiling, ice skating, creating snowmen, sledding, and snowboarding are all activities that are done in the winter. You might say, “In the summer there are more activities, you can go water skiing, swimming and boating.” When it’s warm outside, there is a constant pressure to go out and enjoy the weather, and go outside. Also, because of the weather, there is less housework to be done. In the summer, you are constantly cutting grass and pulling weeds, while in the winter you don’t have to worry about that. Also, the weather is better in the winter because you can enjoy more vacations because you are not burning. For example, going to Florida in the winter is more fun than going to Florida in the Summer. Because of the weather, there are less bugs around in the winter than in the summer. In the winter you don’t have to worry about bee nests or a mosquito biting you, whereas in the summer, you are always checking for bugs. Lastly, you are a fool not to admit that you lose more knowledge in the summer than any other part of the year. Winter break is better than summer break. You aren’t losing knowledge during winter break because it is a shorter amount of time that you are away from school. While summer break does involve a long vacation from school, often it’s filled with job searches and preparation for the following year.
