Introduction:
Wind energy is one of the major renewable energy sources. It is produced through blowing wind. The wind turns the blades of a wind turbine which are connected to a generator, then the generator converts that energy into electricity which then used to power our homes (Origin Energy Limited, 2015).Currently it has being used in Australia to fight the issue of global warming, which is being caused by non-renewable energies. Wind energy production has become an issue in Yorke Peninsula. It is threatening the behaviour of wild life especially migratory birds and other species that depend on mating calls to reproduce. Now they are unable to hear these calls due to …show more content…
Recently, South Australian labor government had set a 50% renewable energy target for 2025. Wind energy projects like Cere project and Horndale project could take that investment to 50% (Vorrath, 2014). According to South Australian Premier, Jay Weatherill. This new target of half of the States power to be generated by renewable sources will create jobs and drive capital investment and advanced manufacturing industries. Currently there are hundreds, if not thousands of South Australian jobs in the renewable energy sector (Vorrath, 2014).
The consequences of problems associated with wind power generation include positive and negative environmental, social and economic consequences.
Issues: Consequences Positive: Negative:
Environment: They reduce carbon dioxide emissions, this means no air pollution or waste which might cause human respiratory system.
Wind turbines can be installed were agricultural farms exists, as a result utilizing environmental space. They are harmful to birds, especially when installed along or on the way of migratory birds, breeding and feeding point of wildlife.
Can cause bush fires in the event of electrical problem on the generator, see figure 2
