There’s a student acrostic poem that I have heard in the past for the word school; “Seven Crappy Hours of Our Lives.” It’s not a very appropriate saying, but I can comprehend the feelings of its creator. Imagine school felt long enough only to get another hour and a half added. I believe the way classes are distributed is reasonable, so how would adding another hour function? A longer school day would just mean complicated compromises and sacrifices would have to be made, students who dislike school would have another reason why, and time away from school would just be eaten out of teachers’ and students’ lives.

It can be agreed that the county works hard to ensure our Fairfax County public schools are exceptional quality. With that in mind, why would the county have to

There are frequently homework complaints, normally on the quantity and time to complete it. With a lengthy school day, students would dread having to do schoolwork outside of school as they simply wouldn’t have time to complete it. In relation, another concern is waking up early after little sleep from the night before. With little time to finish homework, a student has the option to either go to bed early and not get homework done, or to do homework and lose hours of shuteye. This would be the case if there was a longer school day. This would also be negative if a student disliked a teacher because that would result in more time with the teacher. However, students may even find the current school day too timely. In my opinion, it’s just enough time, but procrastinating is not an option. With school’s duration broadening, perhaps the struggling students would be encouraged to skip classes, which is unwanted,

In the essay “Why Schools Should Start Later in the Morning”, author Emily Richmond argues to persuade the public to begin school at later times. Richmond is passionate about her cause and manages to create a strong argument by using expert opinion, refuting the counterclaim, and compelling consequences to strengthen it and create a more persuasive tone. Ms. Richmond uses expert opinion throughout her argument to assist her by providing facts that help her make her point. Ms. Richmond begins by quoting Anne Wheaton, a lead author and epidemiologist of the CDC’s Division of Population Health, who says, “Getting enough sleep is important for students’ health, safety, and academic performance,” (qtd. in Richmond). This shows how Richmond is passionate…

My topic is late school start and and I stand supporting a late start. I would much rather support late school start then an early start because, students will be missing the energy needed to carry on with the rest of the day. Even though late school start will be bad for a teacher whats the point in teaching early if the students won't be able to learn. This will be bad for both the teachers job and the students reason to even be there if they won't have energy for the day. I think that if school allowed us to go to school at 9:00 we would feel more awake and happy.…

If your school was to stay open one and a half hours late would you be horrified? I disagree, because kids need sleep, there is no participation in class, and their is no time for extracurricular activities. First of all, every kid need at least seven to eight hours of sleep. The average teenager needs at least twelve to fourteen hours of sleep. If a child does not get enough sleep then the child can be very agitated and grumpy.…
