The benefits of exercise are so significant that the Department of Health recommends all Australians aged 18-64 to get 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each day. Those aged 65 and over are recommended to work up to 30 minutes each day at the level of their ability (provided they have their doctor’s clearance).

Elevated Push-ups are a great way to strengthen the upper body and arms. Start with your hands elevated on the back of a bench (about hip height) and lower your chest to the bench by bending the elbows, then straighten them (push) to return. Make sure you’re lowering your whole body and not just bending your back. Once you can comfortably do 5 push-ups at that level then you’re ready to try the next height down.
Requirements: A bench, picnic table, wall, outdoor exercise equipment or anything stable that’s at a height that suits you.
