Throughout middle school, I felt constrained by the lack of opportunities of any type. Entering high school, though, opened new doors to social and political engagement. Soon after starting 9th grade, I applied, and got accepted into, Student Senate. Thereafter, I ran for a Sophomore Class office, narrowly losing by three wretched votes! But I persisted on, applying, and again being accepted, to be a Sophomore Representative. Persistently I worked. Tirelessly I worked. I worked. Throughout this position, I chaired, or was a member of, multiple school-level committees (such as Homecoming Week) and community/state-level committees (such as Fruita Fall Fest). Moreover, specifically outlined responsibilities under my position included taking the minutes of all Senate meetings, as well as officiating Parliamentary Procedure. I also oversaw the Senate budget, approving all disbursements. At the conclusion of this position, I ran for State Representative (a member of the Colorado High School Activities Association Student Leadership Board, which facilitates coordination and activities between all high school’s student governments), and was accepted onto the Board. Overall, I have an extensive love for student government, specifically because of the diversified routes of action it affords. If a blood drive was needed, we did it.
