Dress codes teach girls that their bodies are sexual and that they are distracting to boys. By constantly pushing the rules about covering the shoulders or making sure your shorts are at the knee, makes it so that anything shorter or more revealing is too sexy. Dress codes make the problem worse, because the more taboo something is, the more it intrigues students and teens to look or be “distracted”. The dress code tells girls that their bodies are provocative and they are forced to cover up because if they don't then they will get harassed, because that's what they think will make a difference. The dress code teaches girls that their bodies are sexual and that boys cannot handle themselves, just because a girl's shoulder is showing. But never does the dress code point out that it could be the same way for boys.
