Where The Red Fern Grows essay

In the past couple of weeks, we have read the book “Where the Red Fern Grows” and watched the movie. Both are excellent stories, but which is better? It is the story of Billy, who is a poor farm boy growing up in Oklahoma, who works to buy and train two Redbonehound hunting dogs, Old Dan and Little Ann. Together with his dogs, Billy becomes a champion hunter, until the dogs meet a tragic end. I would choose the book, since the book had lots of character development, which was amazing. The characters in the book were more advanced and had more emotions than the characters in the movie. The book was written by Wilson Rawls and was published in 1961. The book “Where The Red Fern Grows” stood out with some impressive characteristics. The author did a great job of developing the characters, providing them with depth, personality, and individuality. As a reader, it was easy to connect and relate to each character as they were very well done, and the author's portrayal of each character was truly remarkable. They weren't just stereotypical, but rather a unique blend of traits and attributes that made them feel genuine and authentic. It's important to note that well-developed characters can make or break a story. They add depth and complexity to the plot and create a sense of investment in the reader. The characters in this book were no exception, they were so well-crafted that it made it hard not to pay attention to the book. Overall, the book's characteristics were one of its strongest points. The way the characters were developed, portrayed, and evolved throughout the story was truly impressive and added a lot of value to the reading experience. One of the differences between the novel and the film is the character development. In the book, there was so much time for character development in the movie, but they just rushed it. For instance, when Billy saves up for his dogs, it takes him two years to get the amount of money that he needs. In the book, over those two years, his mom had another baby, and he made lots of money. He sold veggies, minnows, barries, and crawfish. “I could sell stuff to the fisherman: crawfish, minnows, and fresh vegetables” (Rawls, Pg#11) In the movie Billy sold other things and did other jobs such as gathering wood and selling eggs. “Where in the blazes did you get all of that” (Where The Red Fern Grows, 12:28-13:18) My second difference is the difference between Rubin and Ranie from the book and the movie. In the book Rubin and Raine were just awful, they were so mean. They were also bad in the movie, but they seemed
