The main twist to Girl in Hyacinth Blue was that it was told in reverse chronological order unlike most books, but was it entirely necessary? When it comes down to new (especially books) there aren't many “new” tricks that can capture the reader, but in Girl in Hyacinth Blue the author made a rather interesting decision to write the book backwards(starting at the end and ending at the start). Was making the Girl in Hyacinth Blue in reverse chronological order really worth the buildup and payoff? I think it was, after all it’s hard to make a decision that changes the book because there has been a set way of creating and publishing books for years.
