My first cause of my new interest in mental disabilities all began my mother. She worked at a company that helps the people who are considered to be mentally disabled by society. There was one time that she happened to arrive at home upset, so upset that she nearly was in tears because of something that had happened that day. So, when I asked her, she said, while trying so hard to hold back tears, just as would as a dam holding back a lake from spilling over into a town, “I had applied for the lead position at the house, during the interview, it was stated that, I wouldn’t get the job because I couldn’t communicate well. Each of them has a severe learning disability. One has dyslexia, and the other has a disorder where her mind is not at the appropriate age she is; it’s a few years behind her physical development. I have to help them both, with spelling certain words, such as “bear” and “bare” or “sun” and “son”. I help them both; by finding multiple ways for me to explain a simple thing or concept to each of them, because both of their minds have a certain way of learning, and that it is different from “normal” brains to learn. When there are problems with them understanding another or anyone else, I help, and I honestly love it, even though it doesn’t always pan out in a good
