Patriotism is standing up for your country, government, leaders, and your family. The truest definition of patriotism is seeing people giving up their time, energy, homes, and loved ones to fight for our country. For example, my Pappy served from the year 1968 until 1970 on the U.S.S. Ranger CVA-61. Whenever another ship came alongside theirs, they had someone riding on a full-size fiberglass horse, while they played the William Tell Overture, and that person was also holding the U.S. flag. While Pappy was on his way home from Da Nang, Vietnam, he rode an airplane that stopped at the edge of the jungle to pick up soldiers who still had their weapons with them, and were ready for anything. When they finally got to the Norton AFB in California, they caught a bus to Long Beach. We should stand when the pledge of allegiance is being recited unless we are physically unable to do so and we should also sing the national anthem while standing up. Respecting our national flag and the Star Spangled Banner is a basic requirement of the people living in this great country. When we do this, we are not only respecting the song or the flag, but also the men and women who have given their lives to protect this country. Respect should be given to the people who have served our country and risked their lives for the rest of us. As for the people who are in power over our country remember who put them there in the first place, respect them, and understand that God has the final say in all elections.
