Along with the physical abuse, there was emotional and verbal torment that was much worse. They would say things like, “You are so fat that the monkey bars are going to break under your weight,” and talk about me behind my back saying things such as, “She can’t even walk without falling over”. All of that abuse is only the tip of the iceberg.
Although this experience was very harmful and damaging, I have come to terms with it and learned many things from it. Getting bullied taught me that there is always something better for me in the world. Being bullied for so long has taught me not to settle for something mediocre, and to always look for ways in which I can make my life better and weed out toxic people. It has taught me not to get too comfortable, to go outside my comfort zone in order to find something better and to always have hope in the future. It has also given me the realistic sense that I can’t change other people and I can’t change my surroundings, but I can look for different ones and try them out, see if they are any better. Also, getting bullied has taught me that standing in the margins of your community gives you a perspective that no one else has.
