In the article “We Are What We Eat: We Are a Nation of Immigrants!” by David Rosengarten, he discusses the distinct influences and development of cuisine in the United States. Over many years, food has changed the national diet in America. Food has changed because of the immigrants coming to America in the past. Americans have adopted and adapted these different cuisines and it “has sparked a richness and diversity in the fare on America’s dinner tables and in its restaurants” (Rosengarten 216). Countries such as China, Italy, Africa, and much more have contributed to the meals that Americans eat today. When immigrants from different countries first came to the United States they tried their hardest to make their meals from back home. Most of the time immigrants would have to tweak these foods because the states did not acquire certain ingredients needed to make that meal. “American cooking today is one of the most vital cuisines in the world” (Rosengarten 216). Along the year’s America’s food has changed in many ways and because of this, the country is more diverse and distinct. …show more content…
“Food-savvy people everywhere are recognizing the high quality of what’s being cooked in America” (Rosengarten 216). The immigrants did not expect that their food would be such a great influence, but it ended up changing the food game completely. Cuisines from France, Spain, Persia and many more countries have created food that is worthy enough for the royal court to eat. Immigrants brought their talents and perspectives and put them into Americans everyday lives. The United States have taken many years to transform food into the good quality it is today. The various types of food that America has now is unifying countries around the world and it is helping them get along

    In her book, “A Nation of Immigrants and Gatekeeping Nation: American Immigration Law and Policy,” Erika Lee argues that the United States has this “deep-rooted ambivalence” toward immigration. She suggests that the ambivalence stems from the America’s seemingly contradictory and flip-flopping nature of immigration policies and such notions are negative. While I agree with her point that the US is ambivalent on immigration, I do not see how that is a massive problem that Lee makes it out to be.
