1.What did this activist do that made him famous?
Nelson Mandela did what no other has done in his Country and that is to become the first black president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela wanted to achieve equality rights and battled for independence and racial equality. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison but was sentenced to life. Nelson Mandela came out of prison at the age of 71. He was imprisoned for standing up against a government that was executing horrible abuses against black South Africans. The government thought he was planning to sabotage.

How was he labelled by the International media and leaders at the time and how is he seen by the international world today? Why is there such a difference?
Nelson Mandela was labeled as a terrorist because of the fact that he was part of the ANC. The movement was looked as if they were communists and terrorists because the ANC has had violent protests. Now Nelson Mandela is looked to as one of the greatest freedom fighters, the reason for the change is because now the countries know the story and are more acceptant towards equality and racial backgrounds.
7. What contributions has he made to his country and the world? Nelson Mandela created a political pathway, turning South Africa into a democracy, allowing blacks to vote and run. He also brought Cultural Power, that year South Africa hosted the Rugby World Cup which was the first event to be held in South Africa after Apartheid left government. Around the world he is an inspiration.
