The sale of war bonds contributed to the immense amount of money used to aid in their victory. War bonds have dramatically impacted the war with the money they loaned for the military to improve their weapons, machinery, and training. According to The World War II Museum, The United States spent over $300 billion, which would equal to $4 trillion today (Take a Closer Look at War Bonds, n.d.). War bonds were seen as the home front’s contribution to victory. A war bond was an investment in one’s country and an investment in one’s own future. With purchasing war bonds came social pressures. Those who had money were the ones primarily purchasing these bonds, as they could afford to “support” the success of their country. Consequently, those with low income fell inferior to those with more money, as they could not afford to contribute to the victory of their country. One of the questions proposed in the HIST1180 – Making Money course is “More Money, More Happiness?” How much more money makes a difference and if it is long term happiness or short term, maybe even both. Americas objective was to have more power over the Axis’, and with the money came power. The Allies were successful in their battle, showing how united and patriotic Americans are during a time of distress. The use of propaganda, can be seen as unlawful, and deceiving, but also a form of unity.
