The Corps relied on the help of these volunteers, however, for all their advantages and benefits there were many challenges and drawbacks. Managing the massive amount of volunteers required much responsibility more than the “Volunteer Coordinator” could handle alone. The challenges with volunteers is that the majority of volunteers are short term or seasonal volunteers. They will volunteer as much as their schedule and life allows them time to participate. Therefore, this proves to be problematics when they want to volunteer in areas that require longevity. In addition, some volunteers come with business or professional backgrounds and think that the Corps could do their programs in a better way, even though the better way may be against …show more content…
Volunteers handle the sorting and distribution of Angel Tree. These volunteers set up the distribution center, sort all the gifts, and then coordinate all activities during distribution. This is especially beneficial to the Corps by helping keep finances down while delivering excellent quality to the Angel Tree program and benefactors. However, in the Red Kettle program volunteers provide both benefits and drawbacks to their use. Some of the benefits are that they provide great representation and image to the Army. They also save the Army money by not having to pay them; therefore, the Army is able to keep the entire donation to the kettle. The drawback to using volunteers is that they are reliable; since their service is free, one must deal with their schedule. For volunteers to be used completely in the Red Kettle program the coordinator must constantly be in communication with volunteers and continue to develop the volunteer

Communication is of essential importance in any workplace, relationship, and gathering, which creates efficient leadership within a group. Towards the closing of my junior year, I was elected to be one of the few student board members to my school’s National Honor Society. Achieving board member status for this renowned society of students is an eye-opening experience. Adapting to the responsibility that a highly respected board member carries of such a prestigious group truly distinguishes differences between the ordinary member and those who collectively lead the organization. From coordinating induction ceremonies for incoming members, to communicating with local providers for community service events, being a representative of…

Every day, millions of people around the world struggle with many problems such as: poverty, hunger, homelessness, etc. Without people volunteering to help solve these issues, what would the world be like? Although there are many existing organizations that help with these issues, such as Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels, one that I have found an interest in is Habitat for Humanity. They are a non-profit volunteer association that works together to build reasonably priced homes for people all over the world.…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
