The study focus on the Nigerians cultural belief, perception, and practices of healthy eating habits and physical activities in the United States. “A preliminary study conducted with a community advisory committee from the church to learn about the community’s health issues, needs, and concerns revealed a concern about obesity among the immigrant group” (Turk, Fapohunda, & Zoucha, 2014, p. 18). The data for this study was collected using a method called photovoice. This method allowed the participants to use photographs to describe their life experiences and current health condition. The participants were instructed to take photographs of things in which were considered unhealthy eating habits and physical activities. Photographs were taken by the participates and were used as a focus during group discussion at the church. During the group discussion, the immigrants discussed their ideas, attitudes, feelings, and perceptions about healthy and unhealthy eating and activity in the United States. There were four themes, in which transpired from the data collected during this study. The four themes were eating in moderation is healthy, Nigerian ways of living are healthy, American ways of living is unhealthy, and cultural context is important to promote healthy behaviors.
