“Many feel that Van Gogh’s turbulent quest to overcome his illness is reflected in the dimness of the night sky.The village is painted with dark colours but the brightly lit windows create a sense of comfort.” (ArtbleMy personal interpretation of the painting is that Van Gogh was trying to create a stark contrast between the beauty of life and the sad passage that is death. He has purposefully used a much more luminous setting for the sky implying life and a darker setting for the village below evidently implying death. The canvas to some , might also depict hope. Van Gogh skillfully used colour to convey his emotions and thoughts. The image is predominantly dark with blue leading the rest. The painting is a beautiful mix of both warm hues ( yellow , orange ) and cool hues ( blue ) . The dominance of the colour blue is balanced out by the rich yellow of the night sky. There is heavy usage of blue tints and shades ,yellow and a tint of white in the sky and shades and tones of dark blue and green with some red below in the portrayal of the
