While it is not completely their fault models are a lot of the cause as to all the body negativity. “A majority of the models displayed on television and in advertisements are well below what is considered healthy body weight” (Serdar 1). Looking at the models the idea that that is how a woman or man must look in order to be healthy is completely wrong. Many of the models shown are living an unhealthy lifestyle in order to look good for the cameras; and what do people think when they see those models? That they could never look like that. Guess what? They will not look like that! It is nearly impossible to look like those models because they are unhealthy and underweight and not living a happy life. Many are so skinny that they risk infertility, osteoporosis, and kidney damage (Rowland 52). A perfect body for a few years or a child and a healthy body in which someone can live for many more years? “In one study, 3 out of 4 women stated that they were overweight although only 1 out of 4 actually were (Self Image Media 3). The media is corrupting society’s view of their bodies making everyone feel like they are not good enough, that they are too fat, when really they are not. “An average US woman is 5’4” tall weighing 140 pounds; the average US model is 5’11” weighing 117 pounds” (Self Image Media 3). This proves that the ideal body is unrealistic because not everyone is 5’11” and everyone comes with different body shapes and sizes so what may look good on someone else or be healthy for someone else (though the weight of the model is extremely unhealthy) is not good for a specific person. Everyone has different bodies so weight differs on everyone. “40% of all 9 and 10-year olds have already been on a diet (Self Image Media 3). Not only is media effecting older women and men and teens but children
