The career title for this job is called a Veterinary Technician. A veterinary technician assists veterinarians in caring for the animals. The veterinarian technician, commonly called a vet tech, may perform the initial evaluation of the animal’s condition, take care of wounds, check vital statics, collect samples, and deliver medications are among the many duties a vet tech might perform.
The Holland Code that I received was, SCI, which means that I am more Social, Investigative, and Conventional. Using this I devolved a career cluster, I took the medical assistant information from the Social side, Veterinarian from the Investigative side, and numbers from the conventional side. They require team effort while also being able to work alone and face a number of challenges each day. I like that I can choose what I want to work with, I can work with exotic animals, small animals, or large animals with this job. The animals and people that I can help would be the most rewarding part of this job. I volunteered at a veterinary office last summer and it really sparked a curiosity within me. A vet tech assists the veterinarian on duty, almost like a nurse to a doctor. I found it interesting that they were almost like a nurse due to the fact they see the animal patient first, take vitals, ask questions, and prep them for the veterinarian on duty. Some important skills would be able to work in a team as well as by yourself, quick thinking, and being able to handle animals. In Oklahoma, you will need to have an Associate degree in and then take a certified test to be a licensed veterinarian technician. You could take a veterinary technician course, a Pre-vet course, or anything similar, the certified test is what makes you able to be hired. It can take anywhere from two to four years to be a vet
