Verizon’s Collective Bargaining Dispute
Lets talk about what collective bargaining is which “ consists of negotiations between an employer and a group of employees so as to determine the conditions of employment. The result of collective bargaining procedures is a collective agreement (collective bargaining)”. The unfair treatment of Verizon employees caused 45,00 workers to go on strike. A, majority of the people that are participating in the strike are part of the landline division. In the dispute was resolved with a proposed agreement that each side has tentatively agreed on.

“Wall Street 's consensus earnings estimate for Verizon for the second quarter has fallen by 4% over the past two months. “Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam conceded at an investor conference that it will be hard for Verizon to sign up as many new customers -- particularly for its FiOS Internet and TV services -- as it did in the first quarter before workers went on the picket lines (La Monica)”. By going on strike and causing Verizon economic problems it put pressure on the company to come to some sort of agreement with the people on strike. On the other hand Verizon has retaliated to the strike by having “thousands of nonunion employees who have been trained as fill-ins, and they will be reassigning employees from elsewhere in the U.S. and other units in the company ( Domonoske)”. By doing this Verizon has taken some power away from the union because there are people who are willing to do the job without complaints and they are taking money and jobs away from the people who are on …show more content…
Yes, workers went on strike and the union stepped in. Yes, Verizon had stock go down and had to hire people to temporarily fill in while the strike was going on and lawyers got involved. At the end of the day they both parties came to an agreement and a proposal was made and at the moment both parties are happy.
