In this essay we are aiming to compare and contrast between two different sculptures, both sculptures nearly belong to the same era, but two different civilizations, one from the Egyptian ancient history and the other one is from the Neo-Sumerian Civilization, what is known as Iraq in modern days.
The importance of this comparison is because these two civilizations were among the greatest civilizations in the ancient world, therefore we are very interested to analyze their art and study the importance of art and how it was represented during the time of each culture.

The first major difference from the statute if Gudea, is that Memi and Sabu sculpture appeared to be for non-royalty statuary . What does that mean? First of all it means that the civilization at that time has widened the usage of sculpture for more than just royalties and highly ranked rulers of the country, as we saw in the Gudea sculpture.
The other indication is that the sculpture of Memi and Sabu, could belong to a couple of normal citizens at that time, where sculpture art was also used to represent wealth and social status and it represents what is now known as photography. That is what I can tell form this piece of art, the fact that it doesn't belong to a royalty makes it more of an open society practice at that time. The intimacy reflected in the sculpture leaves no doubt in what I have analyzed about this sculpture, which is personal art.
What more does it tell us? Well, I can also see that although that sculpture was made long time back, it shows that women enjoyed power and more respect within the society during the 4th Dynasty era, unlike what has been the status of women in different areas of the world at the time and during later times of mankind
