Pros And Cons Of Community Colleges

Adam Rowley was in his senior year of high school and was trying to decide if he wanted to go to the University of Iowa or Indian Hills his first year of college. He chose Indian Hills because he would be closer to home and get his general classes done for a cheaper cost. When he finally transferred to the University of Iowa, he was glad he went to a community college first because he realized he wouldn 't have been ready for the overwhelming homework and atmosphere of Iowa City. Many seniors in high school are faced with the decision of choosing the college they will be attending for the next few years of their lives. Making that decision is tremendously difficult and can be very stressful to a senior in high school. One of the choices seniors are faced with is: going to a community college for two years then transferring to a University, going straight to a University, or only going to a community college. There are many pros and cons to all three situations. Going to a community college reduces debt and enhances learning. Admittedly, universities have a wide variety of many excellent qualities that community colleges lack. Many students don 't enjoy school but wish to pursue a degree that will make them financially stable. Community colleges have many programs to offer. “Community Colleges offer programs in all major fields of study ranging from political science to zoology. No matter what the student is interested in, they are sure to find a program that fits their needs” (The Top 10). On average a community college program takes about one to two years to complete. Therefore, in about nine months, a student could be done with college and working in the workforce with a certificate in their desired field.
