Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina was the former dictator of the Dominican republic. His prolong reign over the Dominican people lasted for over 30 years of hard authoritative and imperious behavior among the Dominican Republic. He could possibly be blamed for the death of over 50,000 people. 20,000 of which occured in the Parsley Massacre. Although due to his brutality the Dominican republic did however maintained solidity and success as a country. The price of that was the violation of basic human rights. Trujillo rise to power started when he joined the National Guard and trained with U.S Marines. In only 9 years of Trujillo’s training, He rose from cadet to general and commander-in chief by impressing his officers. During the 1930 rebellion against president Horacio Vasquez, Trujillo conspired with rebel leader Rafael Estrella Ureña. After the rebellion, Estrella would allow for Trujillo to run for office in the new elections. Subsequent to the overthrowing of Vasquez Trujillo confirmed as head of the police and of the army. This sense of power became known when Trujillo was running for president. The other presidential candidates became targets for the police and Army to harass. They would hinder the presidential campaign of other candidates allowing for Trujillo’s campaign to be uncanny. His campaign won him a sprawling victory against his much disadvantaged competitors in a rigged election.
