Was the Treaty of Versailles fair to Germany?
The Treaty of Versailles, signed on June 28th, 1919, was signed at the end of World War one. Signed by Germany and the allied forces, this officially ended the state of war, but put Germany in a really rough spot. The treaty was created to cripple Germany so that they could not start a war. Itself, the treaty was a punishment to the German forces, saying that they started the war and they had to take all of the blame for it and all of the attached consequences. Many people state that the treaty was unfair to Germany because it took away many assets and affected their territory, mandated them under the control of the allied states, gave them military restrictions so that they couldn’t defend themselves, and reprieved them, forcing them to pay for damages done during the war. However, the other side of the argument says that Germany got what they deserved. Germany was deemed to be the aggressors in the war and the people who kindled it. The French thought it was fair because they caused massive destruction to their beloved land and it limited their “world power.” The main question though, was the …show more content…
Woodrow Wilson and the United States didn’t have to agree to the terms of the punishments, but those two swayed the opinion of President Wilson. The two nations previously got together in secret meetings and talked about how much they hate the Germans and what they can do to sort of get back at them for all of the anguish they caused. In fact, their relationship increased due to the fact that they connected on the level of what they wanted from the treaty and partially achieving the overall goal of screwing Germany.
