Romeo and Juliet: Did Fate Really Have An Impact? Ashita Tripathi Were the deaths of Romeo and Juliet fate? Or was it because of other actions, like communication, or lack thereof? These questions have been pondered by many, and according to Sara Deats, author of “Isolation, Miscommunication, and Adolescent Suicide In The Play”, their deaths were because of the lack of elucidation, the feelings of isolation, loneliness, anger, guilt, and different opinions between parents and children. This makes more sense than their death being caused by ‘fate’. It is known that fate may have caused a problem, as the families of Romeo and Juliet were fighting. The problems in this play were caused by other people, and even Romeo and Juliet themselves. What does fate mean? According to Wolfram Alpha, it is an event that will inevitably happen in the future. This poses the question “Were Romeo and Juliet’s deaths planned by the stars?” The answer is definitely no! They were born in rival families, but that was not why their plan failed. Their plan was to run away together, and it would have worked, but there were problems that took place that their families did not cause. Many of the events that unfolded in Verona were caused by its inhabitants. The death of Tybalt was caused by Romeo, not the stars. It was Romeo who killed Tybalt, meaning the feeling of guilt that Romeo felt was caused by himself.
