Table 6 shows per-capita weight of tourists' waste in different cities of Mazandaran. As it can be seen, the per-capita waste produced by tourists is 633 to688 gr per day.
According to studies conducted in Mazandaran province, the per-capita waste of citizens is between 685 to 896 gr per day in this province [34]. So, the per-capita waste of tourists is almost the same as the natives' one. Due to more activity during the day, tourists consume more food and produce more waste. On the other hand, since these people don’t stay at their homes, there are no components such as rubbish, …show more content…
Table 9 shows the average moisture percentage, percentage of flammable materials and thermal value of tourists' waste in Mazandaran province.
In this table, the formula of the chemical package of tourists' waste was obtained C601H756O365N10S and, the formula of the chemical package of local people's waste was C521H536O211N12S in the previous studies [34]. Most of tourists' waste consists of flammable and plastic components and cartons while most of native's waste is made up of foods leftovers, then the nitrogen percent is less in tourists' waste and the carbon percentage is higher in native's waste. According to this table, the percentage of dry matter of tourists' waste is 84 % more than the waste of local people of the province (63%). The reason for this, is less percentage of degradable materials in tourists' waste. Also, the percentage of the compressible materials of tourists' waste determined 76 % which is higher than the locale's one (57%) …show more content…
The thermal value is the amount of heat generated by completely burning of one kilogram of waste and is measured by experimental calorimetry or calorimetric bombs, and is used in calculation of energy recovery systems. The thermal value of municipal waste is a function of the waste components and decreases when moisture is present. The thermal value of municipal waste is between 800 to 1600 kcal/kg in the presence of humidity and 3600 to 7200 kcal/kg in the absence of moisture. Because of having a high percentage of flammable components such as plastic and rubber, paper and carton, tourists' waste will generate high amount of thermal value, therefore it has to be considered in designing of incineration facilities and energy recovery establishments in cities where the tourists' waste is several times of local people's waste, otherwise the internal wall of the incinerator furnaces will be destructed quickly and the various parts of the incinerator system will be
