It was designed to end this type of discrimination that existed in schools and finally complete the circle of civil rights in America. However, Title IX received a cultural resistance- males felt that sports were too strong for a woman, and if given the opportunity to play, makes would lose quintessentially. I am still quite young, young enough to not remember a time before Title IX, but women benefit from it everyday. The whole purpose of Title IX is about social change. Girls are underrepresented, and without this legislation being passed, there would probably be very little female athletes. People have a perspective of only looking at women as sexual deviants, and that we can’t put up numbers as well as a man can, and that is unfair. In the article Has Title IX, now 40 Years Old, Harmed Male Athletics?, the answer is no. If anything is has given them more gain. The percentage of female coaches have decreased dramatically, because male coaches are dominating. Even in the case where those female coaches remain, they are paid way less than a male coach yet given more challenges. This article gives myths about Title IX, but those myths turn out to be uneven. In some ways, Title IX can be benefiting to both male and female, but on the contrary its more elevated to give purpose to what we still don’t have- equality. I hope to inspire women to continue at what your good at and focus on changing the future.
