In American Made: Shapers of the American Economy, the author, Harold Livesay, labels Thomas Edison as “the most useful American.” In addition, he describes him as arrogant but hardworking. Over Edison’s lifetime he made thousands of patents, “[producing] a patentable device every two weeks of his adult life,” which caused the United States to enter into a technology revolution and allow electricity to spread throughout the country.
