My parents were always giving me the same answer: “no.” They also told me that I would not take care of the dog and that mom will be the one ending up taking care of him. Randomly, one cold fall night, my dad came home with a flat faced, huge-eyed, red hairy Pekingese female dog shaking like a leaf in the wind. We hurried up and gave her a bath so she can warm up and decided to name her Gabriella after the Orthodox holiday dad had brought her home of which was St. Michael and Gabriel’s day. By the time mom came home from work, it was too late for her to take the dog away from us. Everything was great at the beginning, but as time passed, we eventually realized that mom was right and that she was the one taking care of Gabriella now. She even helped her give birth in our bathroom one night. We woke up to find that we had five puppies: three boys, and two girls! As this was a reason to celebrate, we told our friends to come over at our house. They welcome me home every day after work like I’ve been gone for a century and even watch TV with me without hogging the remote. Additionally, by walking the dogs in the park they help me maintain a healthy lifestyle. I also socialize more with the other people while my pooches are getting to know and play with their dog. Dogs also enjoy car rides and it has been proven that owning one can help kids learn about responsibility and empathy. I believe that every person should experience the joy of having a canine companion and the special, unconditional love that they have to
