Roosevelt was thought to be a peacemaker and he longed for a day where problems were not solved by war but by talking to the other colonies to come to an agreement. Russia and Asia were in war and Teddy wanted to offer help to bring peace to which they both denied his help. Teddy always said “speak softly and carry a big stick….” Later, as both nations noticed his ability to help, they ended up taking some of his advice. Teddy wanted to expand the American military. He knew that the country to be able to hold their safety as long as the military was large enough. One of Roosevelt’s ships were bombed and they suspected it was spain, therefore leading to war. The war took place and overall Roosevelt won the battle. The Panama Canal was then built, which saved time and took less effort to trade across the seas. Once the Panama Canal was built and they seen the difference and the capability trading with other countries was easier they were then able to expand their amount of resources. In which it made it better for them when needing weapons for war.
