The British came into India looking for power and resources. The British were able to create the world’s biggest democracy at the time so they could get the people to do many things for them. They were brought together by the British and they used their population for manufacturing goods and bringing profit to Great Britain. They also created a justice system, civil service and efficient police force that helped stop Thuggee and Suttee which were violent highway robberies and the sacrificing of widows (Lalvani). They constructed many museums which could be used as a knowledge base for young adults trying to find education and universities. According to Dr.Lalvani the British created great cities like Bombay, Calcutta and Madras and also banned suttee which was the practice of burning widows at their husband’s funeral pyre and female infanticide. The British also unified several different states into one unified Indian (Lalvani). By mid-19 century India had a postal system that helped spread the English language and it spread knowledge of different cultures(Lalvani). They also protected wildlife and ancient buildings. In document 5 they said that mainly the men got an education and that the women weren't expected of anything but to only clean and cook for their husbands.
