Habitant families worked very hard. They had a lot of responsibilities. Some of the jobs they had to do were:
Grow crops and raise animals to support themselves.
Give a portion of their production to the seigneur as rent.
Work without pay for seigneur for 10 days.
Provide free labour to build and maintain a church.
Pay taxes to church and government.
