In discussions of the Palestinian and Israeli conflict one issue has been the rights to the land? On one hand the Israelis argue that it had been their land since before biblical times. On the other hand, Palestinians will contend it is and always has been their land and refuse to give up without a fight. My feelings on this issue are mixed. I do support the Israelis on retrieving their land if in fact it was theirs to begin with, but since there is no proof whose land is who’s, I feel that their forceful way of handling this situation has gotten out of hand. After all was said and done Israel commanded 70% of Palestine. When many of the Palestinians that fled or were expelled tried to return they were permanently barred from the state. Now those
Palestinians that stayed have become second class citizens. A majority of the Palestinians now occupy the West Bank and Gaza strips living in refugee camps seeking to return to their homeland. The history of the conflict changes dramatically depending on who is telling the story and where said story begins. Regardless of which side of the story is believed to be right, one could be labeled a Zionist or a Hamas terrorist. Ahmeds’ point is that if Israel cannot establish peace and justice within themselves how are they supposed to relay those values to Palestinians. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and in this case both sides continue to lash back at each other committing one war crime after the next with no gain of peace what so ever.
