These people believe that they need their own protection, and that the only way they will be provided that protection is if they have their firearms on them at all times. These people claim that federal background checks keep the population safe. Those federal background checks did not stop the just recent shootings at University of Texas at Austin and San Bernardino. It is impossible to know who exactly you are selling a gun to. The person buying the gun could change their lifestyle in any second. Having a gun for purposes of self defense is not a bad idea, but it is not a great idea
