In one of my cited text it states, “Most college faculty don’t realize that they lack a substantive concept of critical thinking, they believe that they sufficiently understand critical thinking, and assume they are already teaching students it.” Because of this, we as the students often find ourselves in a lecture, writing for memorization, and (largely ineffective) short-term study habits are still the norm in college instruction and teaching today. With this in mind, the students can engage in what they are learning but they are often unfathomable because of this scholars are fixed to grasp similar situations instead of more complex ones. Also in one of my cited text it states,”Critical thinking is the art of thinking about thinking with a view to improving it. Critical thinkers seek to improve thinking, in three interrelated phases. They analyze thinking. They assess thinking. And they upgrade thinking (as a result). Creative thinking is the work of the third phase, that of replacing weak thinking with strong thinking, or strong thinking with stronger thinking. These are the expectations of what critical thinking should be, all three are thought to be taught in schools everyday with each lesson. In The Lie Tree it's told in the story, “Faith's father has been found dead under mysterious circumstances, and as she is searching through his belongings for clues she discovers a strange tree.” Faith can easily accept her father’s death and move on with her life. However, she wanted to put herself at peace by knowing how and who murdered her father, and she did everything in her power to solve that mystery. In addition, The Lie Tree makes it very clear that “However, Faith, whose father is a natural scientist, is determined to show everyone that she is clever, and that she does know about things. Faith and her family have moved to a remote island for a dig that is about to happen, but she soon discovers that there are so many more reasons for why her family left the mainland…” Faith feels as if she has something to prove to her family and she will not relent until she has proven them wrong. Her family believes that she will never be as good as the males in her family. So throughout the novel she is trying to solve a mystery no one can with her witts. Faith is determined to prove her family wrong about what she can and can’t be. she demonstrates grit in the novel and that's a amazing trait to have and it make the readers know that they aren’t in that bad of a
