The developmental disorder does not appear until in the child’s first 3 years of life (Gabriels and Hill 40). Autism affects the brain 's normal development of social and communication skills. Autism occurs when it affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses or “nerve connection” connect and organize together (Silverman 180). The way Autism affects the brain and its nerve cells is still unknown. Signs of Autism cannot be detected at an early age since the symptoms of this disorder are things such as: no babbling by 12 months, no back-and-forth gestures such as pointing, showing, reaching or waving by 12 months, no words by 16 months and any loss of speech, babbling or social skills at any age (Gabriels and Hill 40). Some later symptoms can include: the ability to sustain a conversation with others, stereotyped, repetitive, or unusual use of language and restricted patterns of interest which affects one’s focus (Gabriels and Hill 40). Autism spectrum disorder usually occurs more often in people who have some genetic or chromosomal conditions ( Silverman 170). When the prescription drugs that are called Valproic acid and Thalidomide are taken during pregnancy, it’s been said that those prescriptions are more of a possibility that a child can be born, and diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder ( Silverman 198). It has also been said that ASD usually occurs, and can be known before, during, and immediately after a child’s birth. Another main factor and possibility a child can be born with ASD is if the parents of the child are already old. Many scientists have tried to find a cure for ASD but there are no possible cures. As of now helping children that have ASD with their communication, writing, and listening skills has been the only way to help children with
