Group Consensus
In reviewing the assigned textbook reading and correlating articles for this module, the group determined the most important concepts were leadership vision, servant leadership, and ethics in leadership. Our group came to the selection of these three areas of leadership based on commonality of discussion within our individual posts, experience within these areas from our professional careers, and relative importance of these concepts to the development of a leader (as shared through …show more content…
Baden and Higgs (2015) would expand on this concept of servant leadership by describing the benefits as “being more concerned with building individual and organizational capability, building a sustainable organization, and engaging people with a genuine purpose beyond profit” (p 551). The importance of servant leadership on organizations lies within the desired optimization of the employees; elevating the potential of all members of a company provides the long-range benefit of having more workers with developed leadership experience. “Servant leadership looks at leadership as stewardship rather than ownership… the test of a servant leader is based upon the growth of his or her followers” (Satterlee, 2013, p.113). In focusing on motivating followers through properly casting vision, a leader can study the wisdom of the Proverbs. One such example includes, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5 English Standard Version). Involving God in the diligent steps of crafting and presenting vision will always be more advantageous than declaring an underdeveloped plan.
From a servant leadership perspective, a perfect model is provided in regard to developing followers into leaders. In sharing about this kind of leadership, Jesus states, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45 New Living Translation). In his commentary of this passage David Brown (2015) shares, “He that goes down the deepest in these services of self-denying humility shall rise the highest and hold the chiefest place in that kingdom” (p.1). For Christians stewardship of our life’s roles are critically important, with growth of followers the desired
