Whenever someone travels to a new location they may not realize how much history truly lies before them. Some students including myself would actually enjoy learning about the place they visit by taking a city tour and actually seeing all these sights instead of reading about it from a textbook in a boring classroom. For example, when I went on a family vacation a couple of years ago I learned more information about the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta than I would have ever learned in a classroom. The information that I obtained from the trip varied from how the city was built all those years ago to how much the people of the city truly do respect…

When we consider memorializing an event or person in the form of a monument, no one would imagine it being gnawed away by rats. Certain shortfalls arise when contrasting these forgotten structures and, say, the often-visited monuments of the National Mall. We must mind these qualities if we wish to prevent its fall to obscurity. Foremost, whatever cause our memorial will commemorate, it must resound in the hearts of the people.…

It has been El Paso’s goal to make Castner Range a national park for decades. The park has been an important part of El Paso’s history since 1926, and still continues to impact the city today as we fight for national recognition. Many El Pasoans have expressed and harbored their own opinions on what should become of Castner Range, and their opinions have continued to affect what becomes of it. The group of supporters for the park to become a monument ranges from the EPISD school district, along with other school districts, to the FMWC foundation, along with other wilderness foundations as well. When looking at the facts, and how many people have banded together in support of the park becoming a national monument, I have to agree.…

Personal from all my research and note taking I think we should not take down Confederate Monuments. If we do why not also take down Union Monuments Like Shermans he ruined the south's homes and even killed civilians. I know the south had slavery but so did some of the states in the north. In fax lincoln said that if he could bring the confederates back to the union without freeing any of the slaves, he would do that. This shows that Slavery was not the key of the union war.…

Sometimes people may not care about monuments that represent the past and only be interested in the monument if they get a connection from it. People should consider a couple of factors before building a monument. The monument I would create is in Boston, Massachusetts, which is a historically rich city, but I would create a monument to one specific event named the Boston Massacre. This is a significant event in the history of United States, where British troops murdered some Americans after they formed a mob. This partly led up to the Revolutionary War where America fought Britain. This monument would be made of dolomitic marble. It would contain a 20 x 20 replication of Paul Revere’s engraving of the Boston Massacre, and under it an inscription explaining the Boston Massacre.…

Monuments are built all the time for a plethora of events and for historically important people. These memorials take years to build and cost an arm and a leg to design and construct (Roadside America). For something that takes as much time, dedication, and cash as a monument does, certain things need to be taken seriously into consideration. When building a monument, people should pay close attention to the strategic placement and specific design of the memorial. If these are not given careful consideration a monument will not be successful.…
